Fatal collisions increase on tax filing day

When the tax filing deadline rolls around people scramble to get their forms finished and sent in, but the stress of turning in returns on time can be deadly. New research shows that more American’s died in fatal collisions on the day taxes are due.

A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association showed that more fatal accidents occur on Tax Day, which is typically April 15th, than any other day of the year. The research showed that fatal accidents increased 6 percent on average for every tax filing deadline over the past 30 years.  Putting it a different way, an average of 13 more people will be killed in a fatal accident on Tax Day than any other day.

Dr. Donald A. Redelmeier, a professor of medicine for the University of Toronto explains, “Our research suggests that stressful deadlines can contribute to driver error that can contribute to fatal accidents.” Factor such as driver exhaustion, stress, alcohol and less tolerance can lead to a tragic accident on tax day.

Careless drivers can cause injury or death to others and an accident lawyer can hold these individuals accountable for the pain they cause others. The families of the victims, who are wrongfully killed by a negligent driver, can hire an accident attorney to seek compensation for their pain and suffering.

Once an accident attorney begins working on a case the victims can be confident that someone is fighting for their rights and making sure they get a favorable settlement.
