Duke Energy Corporation DUK, South Carolina to see higher rates

Duke Energy

Duke Energy is asking regulators to raise the rates (avg.) 9.3 percent for residential customers in South Carolina.  The reason behind this rate increase is due to costs for pollution control equipment, coupled with new and improved systems for the distribution of power.

These increases include a general rate hike of 12.1 percent and would be offset by a (proposed) reduced rate for fuel charge in the coming year.  Duke Energy says this reflects a lower demand for power during a slowed economy.

Averaged across the customer base of 600,000, the rate increase would give consumers an average bill of $97 a month.
