As Hurricane Bud continued moving towards the southwest coast of Mexico on Friday, the National Hurricane Center warned coastal residents that “preparations to protect life and property should be rushed to completion.”
"Some fluctuations in strength are possible tonight and Friday morning before gradual weakening begins by Friday afternoon. However, Bud is still expected to reach the coast of Mexico as a hurricane," the center said in an advisory Friday morning.
A hurricane watch is in effect for coastal areas from Punto Telmo to Cabo Corrientes. Heavy rain ranging from 6 to 10 inches is expected in the states of Michoacan, Colima and Jalisco and Nayarit. "These rainfall amounts could produce life-threatening flash floods and mudslides,” the Hurricane Center said.
As of 8 a.m. ET, Bud was traveling north-northeast at 8 mph with maximum sustained winds of 115 mph. The storm was 105 miles southwest of Manzanillo and 165 miles south of Cabo Corrientes.
