The Round Rock, Tex.-based company says while they announced about the netbooks 970 U.S. school districts have placed orders for its Latitude 2100 netbook . That adds up to 73,000 units in the U.S., says Mark Horan, vice president and general manager of Dell's K12 education business.
Dell's aim is to gain share in a market since it entered late. School administrators says thatthe 2100, which costs $369, is not particularly cheap for a netbook but it is much more cheaper than a typical laptop. Dell, found out the educational market as an area where it can lead netbook sales, since rivals like Acer and Asus already dominate the consumer space. "We're focused on the public sector," says Horan.
