Ford Motor Co. buyers up to US$4, 500 from U.S. government program to trade in their old cars for new ones is hooking so much demand for its products that it is hiking North American factory output in the second half of the year.

Dearborn, Mich.-based Ford said in the third quarter it will build 495,000 vehicles 10,000 more than previously planned. The automaker said, if it gets increase successfully, figured to devote on pumping out more Escape sport utility vehicles and Focus small cars.

The vehicles are the automaker’s two most popular offerings under the Obama administration’s so-called “cash for clunkers” program. Both are among the top 10 most popular vehicles being bought.
