Microsoft Corp., the world's largest software maker, spent nearly $1.9 million in the second quarter lobbying on intellectual property rights, cybersecurity and foreign-worker visas, among other issues, according to a recent disclosure report.
Redmond, Wash.-based Microsoft ( MSFT - news - people ) makes most of its profit - $17.7 billion in the 2008 fiscal year - selling the Windows operating system and Office and other desktop software. A rise in piracy is enough to throw off the company's earnings in any given quarter.
