BHP Billiton Ltd. BHP, Faces Strike Over Wages In South Africa

BHP Billiton Ltd.

The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) said its members at BHP Billiton may strike after the union failed to agree on wages at the miner's Meyerton South African operation.

The union has asked for a wage increase of 8.8 percent, while the company has so far only offered a hike of 2 percent, Numsa said in a statement.

The union said it would start a strike on Aug 27 after obtaining a permit from authorities to hold a strike.
