QualityStocks would like to highlight VIASPACE (OTCBB: VSPC), a clean energy company providing products and technology for renewable and alternative energy that reduce or eliminate dependence on fossil and high-pollutant energy sources. Through its majority-owned subsidiary VIASPACE Green Energy Inc., the company grows Giant King Grass as a low-carbon fuel for electricity generating power plants, as a feedstock for bio methane production and cellulosic biofuels, and for other low-carbon, renewable energy products.
In the company’s news yesterday,
VIASPACE recently announced that its proprietary, high yield, dedicated energy crop Giant KingTM Grass has been released from quarantine by the US Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) for distribution in the United States. VIAPSACE believes in reducing or eliminating dependence on fossil fuels via the use of alternative and renewable sources of energy. Through its subsidiaries, it provides raw material for cellulosic biofuels; develops and markets fuel cartridges, products, and technology for methanol fuel cells; markets rechargeable lithium-ion batteries; and is developing security-related monitoring and detection technology and systems for military/defense and commercial applications.
APHIS, a government agency tasked with the mission of protecting and promoting US agricultural health in support of the mission of the US Department of Agriculture, grew the crop at a facility in Beltsville Maryland under the Plant Germplasm Quarantine program. During this time, the Giant KingTM Grass was tested extensively for pathogens, including analysis of the nucleic acid extract using E-Probe Diagnostic Nucleic Acids Analysis (EDNA). Found to be pathogen free, and following an additional inspection by the state of Maryland Department of Agriculture, the crop was issued a phytosanitary certificate and was finally delivered to VIASPACE.
“VIASPACE is expanding its activities into the United States as part of our long-term strategy,” reports CEO Dr. Carl Kukkonen. “Bioelectricity, biofuels, biochemicals, bioplastics and other biomaterials all require reliable, low cost biomass as fuel or feedstock. Our dedicated energy crop, Giant King Grass, has the highest yield of any crop in the world and meets these requirements.”
VIASPACE developed Giant KingTM Grass for use as a low-carbon fuel for electricity generating power plants, energy pellets, and as a feedstock for bio methane production and cellolosic biofuels, biochemicals, and biomaterials.
VIASPACE also recently announced that it had signed a contract with Tibbar Energy USVI LLC to supply Giant KingTM Grass for a 1,500 acre plantation to be established in St. Croix, US Virgin Islands.
Tibbar Energy is developing a 6 MW renewable biomass energy project in the U.S. Virgin Islands on the island of St. Croix. Utilizing VIAPSACE’s proprietary renewable energy crop, Giant KingTM Grass, the project uses the crop as a feedstock for anaerobic digestion, generating biogas which is used to fuel an engine generator set to produce electricity. Slated to begin in 2013, the estimated 20-year project will generate over 20 full time jobs with a total projected economic benefit of $150 million (over the life of the project) to the community through its agricultural and power generation components.
