Tsunami waves triggered by an 8.0 earthquake hit the
Samoan islands Tuesday, leaving at least 111 dead and villages destroyed.
At least 111 people are confirmed dead in Samoa but the
death toll is expected to rise as rescuers continue searching through rubble. The
casualties were found on the two main islands of Samoa, which has a population
of about 220,000, and the U.S. island territory of American Samoa, which has a population
of about 66,000.
At least 7 people are confirmed dead in Tonga. Three
others were reported missing and four people are being treated for serious
injuries.
Villages all across the islands were destroyed or
completely submerged underwater.
Tuesday morning’s earthquake generated three separate tsunami
