(NASDAQ:SQNM) spiked 11.19% or $0.33 to $3.28 on huge volume of over 12.49 million shares as Briefing Trader is reporting that the spike is due to rumors that Sequenom might put itself up for sale. Sequenom is an extremely volatile stock that has traded from a low of $2.83 to a high of $25.99 during the past 52 weeks. Sequenom's market cap stands at $200.60 million. Sequenom, Inc. (Sequenom) is a diagnostic testing and genetics analysis company. The Company is focused on providing products, services, diagnostic testing, applications and genetic analysis products that translate the results of genomic science into solutions for biomedical research, translational research, molecular medicine applications, and agricultural, livestock and other areas of research.

AVANIR Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:AVNR) was among the most active gainers in trade today. The stock opened the days trade at $2.20 and has rallied 13.62% to $2.42 on over 7.15 million shares after the company announced today that it has received a Notice of Allowance from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) announcing that it intends to grant the Company a new patent, extending the period of commercial exclusivity for its lead drug candidate Zenvia well into 2025. The stock gained more than 384% in past six months of trade. Avanir Pharmaceuticals is a pharmaceutical company focused on developing, acquiring and commercializing therapeutic products for the treatment of chronic diseases.
