Barclays PLC (ADR) (NYSE:BCS) rose sharply 7.34% to $24.85 on extremely heavy volume after Standard Chartered has hired Ben Corbould from Barclays Capital as its head of metals trading in Asia. Corbould has over 10 years of experience in metals trading, the bank said on Wednesday. The stock prices shoot up over 198% in last six months of trade with huge volumes. Barclays PLC is a global financial service provider engaged in retail and commercial banking, credit cards, investment banking, wealth management and investment management services with an international presence in Europe, United States, Africa and Asia.
SLM Corporation (NYSE:SLM) soared 8.14% to close the days trade at $9.57 on over 7.37 million shares after Dow Jones reported that SLM Corporation d/b/a Sallie Mae is offering $589 million in remarketing notes. The notes are backed by student loans and are scheduled to price on or before October 21, according to a term sheet. Remarketing agents are Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Credit Suisse and Goldman Sachs. The notes were originally issued on October 20, 2004, and are the obligations of a trust known as SLM Student Loan Trust 2004-10 and are secured by the assets of the trust.
Banco Santander, S.A. (ADR) (NYSE:STD) was one of the top movers of today`s trade. The price of the stock surged 5.52% to close at $16.82 on heavy volumes amid no news. The stock has ranged from $4.87 to $16.85 over the past 52-weeks. So far the stock prices jumped 96% in last six months of trade. Banco Santander, S.A. is a bank holding company. Santander operates principally in Spain, the United Kingdom, Portugal, other European countries, Latin America and the United States, offering a range of financial products.
