Traditionally, researchers have relied on laborious testing in laboratory animals and human patients for drug discovery. However, this practice is expensive and there are also ethical concerns, as well as possible health risks. The groundbreaking scientific discovery, which was made by Dr. Kristina Woodruff, Dr. Luis M. Fidalgo, Dr. Samy Gobaa, Dr. Matthias P. Lutolf and Dr. Sebastian J. The Swiss researchers used Arrayit’s patented and proprietary microarray printing technology and consumables to manufacture nanowell microarrays to screen drug compounds in a miniaturized and massively parallel manner. This is similar to the manner in which computer chips process binary information.
The worldwide market for cell-based assays is forecast to reach $4.7 billion by 2016, a market segment that ARYC expects to drive revenue and earnings as the pharmaceutical industry increasingly uses its technology to streamline the commercialization of new blockbuster medicines.
