The scientists used SpotBot® Extreme Microarray Spotter to manufacture reverse phase protein array (RPPA) microarray devices to further understand radiation exposure in human cells.
The groundbreaking research entitled “The PI3K/Akt/mTOR Pathway is Implicated in the Premature Senescence of Primary Human Endothelial Cells Exposed to Chronic Radiation” has been published in the 2013 edition of PLos ONE. Chronic exposure to low doses of ionizing radiation from nuclear accidents and other sources leads to cardiovascular disease in humans.
The important discovery made using Arrayit’s technology will allow doctors to better understand and treat patients exposed to accidentally levels of radiation. This will help in minimizing radiation effects on the cardiovascular system. The SpotBot® Extreme Microarray used by German and Swedish scientists in the groundbreaking research was purchased for approximately $45,000.
