England Braces for Mass Flooding as Storm Surge Nears

Residents living in Norfolk and Suffolk coast have been told to evacuate their homes and seek higher ground as England prepares for what could be a catastrophic storm surge set to hit within the next 48 hours.

Tremendous winds combined with a pocket of low pressure are expected to cause sea levels to surge more than nine-feet above their normal levels.

The Met Office in England has predicted the storm could produce a “significant tidal surge” that could cause massive flooding along the eastern coast. David Bitton said “It will run down the east coast of the UK, around the Dover Strait and back up around Belgium. It will be comparable to the floods of 1953, which were caused by a storm surge.”

Areas that are expected to be hit hardest are Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft on the Norfolk and Suffolk coast.

The Environment Agency has appealed to residents to follow the warnings being issued and to check with neighbors to ensure they are aware of the situation at hand. A spokeswoman for the Environment Agency was very direct in the warning being issued saying, “There is a danger to life and property.”
