Cyclone Sidr Strikes Southern Coast of Bangladesh

Packing winds of up to 155 miles an hour, Cyclone Sidr hit land on the southern coast of Bangladesh Thursday night and was crossing the Khulna-Barishal coast near the Baleshswar river.

 

Residents had been warned for some time that Sidr was carrying Category 5 strength winds and that the storm could cause serious flooding in the area.

 

Several cyclone shelters have been opened for residents fleeing Sidr.
