The Dow closed above 11,000 on Monday, April 12, 2010 for the first time in over a year and a half on Monday after expectations of an improving first-quarter encouraged buyers to invest in the industrial, energy and financial segments.

 

The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI) accumulated 8.84 points, or 0.08 percent, to 11,006.19. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index, (SPX) jumped up 2.12 points, or 0.18 percent, to 1,196.49. The Nasdaq Composite Index (IXIC) increased 3.82 points, or 0.16 percent, to 2,457.87.
