Landslides and Flooding Leave at least 58 Dead in Bangladesh

Heavy rains have pounded southeast Bangladesh triggering landslides and flooding that have left at least 58 people dead and several more missing.

The hardest hit area has been the beach resort of Cox’s Bazaar where more than 50 deaths have been reported. That figure could jump significantly as rescue efforts have been slowed due to the continued rain fall.

Several homes have been buried under mud and officials fear there are a number of people who remain trapped, waiting for help.

Cox’s Bazaar, as well the neighboring Banderban district, has been pounded by heavy rain over the past two days. Soldiers have been trying to reach the hardest hit areas but access to those spots has been limited due to mud blocking roads.
