'Cereplast Compostables' Receives European Patent

Pennycents Magazine Reports on Cereplast, Inc. (OTCBB: CERP)

Pennycents Magazine, the market’s most valuable research tool covering micro-cap, penny stock and otcbb equities, issued the following daily column by Lester Young.

Cereplast, Inc. (OTCBB: CERP), a company that designs and manufactures sustainable bioplastics, has received additional patent protection from the European Patent Office for its' Cereplast Compostables family of products.  Originally filing for patent protection in 2004, the company received its' initial patent in 2006 for the proprietary formulations, developing and commercializing two resin families: the aforementioned Cereplast Compostables and the Cereplast Hybrid Resins.  Both groups possess several patents already in place for their underlying technology, with another 23 patents pending in the U.S. and abroad.

Cereplast Compostables bioplastic products can be used as renewable, economically-friendly substitutes for petroleum-based plastics, replacing virtually all of the petroleum-based additives normally used in the manufacture of traditional plastics.  According to company management, they're ideally fitted for single-use applications where high bio-content is desirable and compostability is beneficial, such as in the food service industry.  The products are certified as biodegradable and compostable both in the U.S. and Europe, meeting the necessary official standards of those regions.

Also known as Biopolyolefins, the Cereplast Hybrid Resins substitute at least half of the traditional petroleum content used in standard plastic resins with bio-based materials, such as plant starches.  The new plastics have virtually the same physical characteristics as regular polyolefin (including price), and are especially suited for durable goods applications.

Cereplast has developed resins for a wide range of uses, and their durability, economy and innovation should help plastics manufacturers – and consumers, as well – reduce their reliance on foreign-based petroleum while facilitating a cleaner and healthier environment.
