Parkersburg, Iowa Tornado Kills 8

A tornado ripped through Parkersburg, Iowa Sunday and left 8 people dead. The twister touched down in Parkersburg around 6 p.m. and killed five people before traveling 10 miles to New Hartford, where two others were killed.

The tornado left severe damage in its wake. Homes, trees and power lines were ripped down. Marble-sized hail was also reported in some areas.

 

“Early reports indicate that these communities have suffered severe and widespread damage, and I plan to visit the region very soon to offer my support to those affected,” said Chet Culver.

 

Culver declared disaster areas in 3 counties.
