Convicted Hedge Fund Manager Commits Suicide in Atlanta Jail

A hedge fund manager convicted of swindling millions from clients that included several former NFL players committed suicide in an Atlanta jail over the Memorial Day weekend.

37-year-old Kirk Wright, who was convicted in federal court last week of bilking investors out of millions of dollars, hung himself in a South Fulton jail cell on Saturday.

Officials say Wright showed no signs he was planning a suicide, and indicated Wright was not under any special suicide watch.

Wright’s death came four days after a federal court jury found him guilty of swindling millions from clients who had invested close to $150 million since 1997 through his company. Clients were lead to believe the value of those investments was increasing, although much of that money is now missing.

Wright was facing 700 years after being found guilty on 47 counts of mail fraud, securities fraud and money laundering connected with a scam run through his firm, International Management Associates.
