Death Toll Rising Following Monsoon in Sri Lanka

At last 19 people have died and more than 350,000 displaced as Sri Lanka continues to be battered by heavy rains that have produced massive flooding and landslides across the country.

Government officials have warned that the situation could get worse as the rains are predicted to continue throughout the week. The government has already begun to distribute food and water to people and have opened shelters for their protection.

The true devastation won’t be known until the waters retreat but large tracks of farmland are underwater and the effects that has on the crops could be catastrophic.
