MissingMoney.com Allows Americans to Search for Missing, Unclaimed Money

MissingMoney.com, a website that connects Americans to missing, unclaimed money, was featured on NBC's Today Show on Monday.

MissingMoney.com  was launched in 1999 as a means to unify states' missing money databases into one searchable database. The database makes it much easier for Americans to search for their name and bring up any possible matches in most states.

Currently, not all states participate in the MissingMoney.com database. Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Indiana, New York, Oregon and Wyoming can be contacted directly for inquiries.

The Missing Money website offers people to search broadly throughout all states to cover missing money that may be claimed in other states. Femans can search the site under their current name or maiden name as well to find unclaimed money.

The term "missing money" may involve uncashed checks due to address changes and mail not being forwarded. It may also be utility deposits or small amounts left on deposit with banks or other financial institutions. Heirs who are unaware of relatives' unclaimed property may find that they are able to claim the missing money.
