Residents of the Texas Gulf Coast have begun stocking up on supplies and securing stores and homes as Tropical Storm Dolly continues its path across the Gulf of Mexico, gaining in strength and size.
Forecasters have predicted Tropical Storm Dolly will become a Category 1 hurricane by the time it strikes the coasts of Mexico and Texas. Hurricane conditions are expected in those areas by the end of Tuesday.
The National Hurricane Center has issued a hurricane warning for Brownsville north to Port O’Connor where National Guard troops have been taking safeguarding measures to protect against flooding.
Mexico has also extended a hurricane warning from Rio San Fernando north to the U.S. border.
For Tropical Storm Dolly to be upgraded to a hurricane it must carry sustained winds of at least 74 mph, something most forecasters have predicted.
