States Offer Shoppers Tax-Free Weekend Beginning Friday

Several states are offering consumers their annual tax-free weekend this upcoming weekend, giving them savings for back-to-school shopping.

The following states are offering a tax-free weekend: Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Maryland, Missouri, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma,
South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, and Virginia. Washington D.C. will also offer a tax-free weekend.

The tax-free holiday began at 12:01 a.m. on Friday and runs through 11:59 p.m. Sunday.

The weekend gives shoppers, especially those looking for back-to-school items, a chance to buy items tax-free. Items eligible include clothing, sports and recreation equipment, and computers.

In Tennessee, shoppers can purchase select clothing, school and art supplies with a price of $100 or less per item and computers with a price of $1,500 or less without paying Tennessee's state and local sales tax.
