Tropical Storm Karl Upgraded to a Hurricane

Tropical Storm Karl was upgraded to Category 1 hurricane Thursday after its maximum sustained winds reached 75 mph. Karl made landfall Wednesday morning over Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. The National Hurricane Center predicts Karl will produce 3 to 5 inches of rain over the Peninsula, Belize and northern Guatemala.

Hurricane Karl is expected to move into the mainland by Friday. A hurricane watch was put into effect from La Cruz to Barra de Nautla.

"On the forecast track, Karl will move across the southern Gulf of Mexico and approach the coast of the state of Veracruz," the National Hurricane Center says.
