At least three people died Sunday when Typhoon Fanapi hit Taiwan. State media reports more than 50,000 homes were left without power. No other damages were immediately reported.
The dead include a 76-year-old woman who fell into a river and drowned while trying to harvest her crops before the typhoon struck and two students who drowned in a flooded canal.
Meanwhile, Fanapi is expected to hit the southern coast of China between the Guangdong and Fujian provinces on Monday. Chinese authorities have issued an alert for the areas.
