Typhoon Fanapi Hits China, 13 Dead

Typhoon Fanapi hit parts of southern China Tuesday, leaving 13 people dead and 34 others missing. Heavy rains, flooding and landslides forced evacuations in Guangdong province and Fujian province.

China Daily says five deaths and an estimated $68.5 million in damage was reported in Xinyi city. In Yangchun City, three people died and nearly 19,000 residents were evacuated. Three deaths were reported in Rupingtang Township and two in Gaozhou city.

Fanapi has been downgraded to a tropical depression.
