Tropical Storm Matthew Could Hit Central America as a Hurricane

Forecasters say Tropical Storm Matthew is churning towards Central America and could strengthen into a hurricane before making landfall as early as Friday afternoon. Tracking maps predict Tropical Storm Matthew will continue traveling westward and hit Nicaragua and Honduras.

Up to 10 inches of rain, flash floods and mudslides are expected in Nicaragua and Honduras. Governments in both countries have issued hurricane warnings for parts of their coastal areas.

As of early Friday morning, Matthew had maximum sustained winds of 50 mph and was about 240 miles east of Puerto Cabezas.
