Tropical Storm Hanna Leads to Hurricane Watches in North and South Carolina

The U.S. East Coast is bracing for a potential hurricane as Tropical Storm Hanna continues to gather strength after battering an already devastated Haiti.

Hanna appears set to skirt the Bahamas and gather strength in the Atlantic before hitting the Carolina coasts as hurricane watches have been announced for both North and South Carolina.

Tropical Storm Hanna pounded Haiti earlier, compounding the problems left behind by Tropical Storm Fay and Hurricane Gustav. The three storms have left more than 150 dead in Haiti and more than 250,000 displaced.

Meteorologists have predicted Hanna could reach the Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina coasts late Friday, issuing warnings of strong winds and heavy rains along the coastline.
