Hurricane Ike Causing Mass Evacuations Along Texas Coast

With Hurricane Ike continuing to barrel its way through the Gulf of Mexico residents along the Texas Gulf Coast have begun evacuating in droves as meteorologists have issued warnings the storm could be packing 130 mph winds by the time it hits land.

Nearly one million residents have been advised to evacuate ahead of the storm that is expected to hit on Saturday.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry has already organized more than 1,000 buses to aid in the evacuation and the state will receive federal help following George Bush’s declaration of emergency.

Hurricane Ike has already devastated the Turks and Caicos, reportedly damaging 80 percent of the homes, while Haiti took another hit and Cuba was pounded as well.
