Sen. John McCain is not saying whether he supports or rejects the government's $85 billion bailout plan AIG, according to "Good Morning America" on Wednesday.
While in Gustavus, Ohio, McCain said on ABC's "Good Morning America" that he did not want to bail out AIG, the nation's largest insurance company. However, he then said millions of people whose finances were tied up in the company were in danger of having their lives destroyed.
Prior to the AIG bailout, McCain had staunchly said that he would not support a government bailout of AIG or any other company.
In his remarks to ABC, McCain blamed greed, excess and corruption for AIG's problems. He also said that Congress and federal regulators had paid no attention to the problem.
In addition to being bailed out by the Federal Reserve Board, AIG ousted its management. CEO Robert Willumstad was replaced by Ed Liddy, the former head of AllState Corp.
The "Good Morning America" train tour known as "The "50 States in 50 Days Tour" stopped in Gustavus, Ohio on Wednesday. The tour kicked off in New York City Tuesday and will end on Nov. 4.
In other political news for McCain, Lynn Forester de Rothschild, a former key supporter for Sen. Hillary Clinton, will announce her support of McCain on Wednesday.
Forester, CEO of the holding company EL Rothschild and wife of international banker Sir Evelyn de Rothschild, served on the DNC's Platform Committee and Democrats Abroad chapter.
