The 16th tropical storm of the 2008 Atlantic hurricane season formed in the Caribbean Thursday. U.S. forecasters say Tropical Storm Paloma formed around 70 miles east of Cabo Gracias a Dios on the Nicaraguan-Honduras boarder. The storm was moving north-northwest at 7 miles per hour.
A tropical storm watch was issued for Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua and Limon, Honduras. Paloma is expected to pour up to 8 inches of rain on the region.
Paloma is expected to strengthen to a hurricane by Friday.
