Airlines have canceled an estimated 11,000 flights over
the past two days as a massive winter storm coated the Midwest and Northeast
with snow and ice. Many airports in the affected areas were closed or had very limited
flight operations. Several airlines have allowed passengers to change their
travel plans free of fees.
Air travel is not the only thing affected; many
businesses are shut down and people are urged to stay off the roads. Widespread
power outages are expected. The storm affects some thirty states.
Parts of Missouri, Indiana, Kansas, and New York have already
been blanketed with a foot or more of snow while other states have seen even
more.
