HUD Budget Cuts Cause Fear That Mortgage Relief Scams could Rise

By: Daun Lee

The $88 million dollars cuts to HUD funds leave many states concerned that their citizens may become victimized by foreclosure scams. Mortgage relief and foreclosure counseling was at one time free but with the budget cuts will force people to pay for counseling that they may not be able to afford. The cuts may also lead to the rise of scams perpetrated on the already struggling homeowner.

The homeowner facing foreclosure is very vulnerable to scam artists who claim they will help for a fee but don’t follow through with their promises causing them to lose their homes. The homeowner who faces foreclosure should get the advice of a knowledgeable foreclosure attorney to advise them about their options.

A number of reasons like unemployment and serious medical conditions cause homeowners to fall behind on their mortgage payments. The banks will sometimes work with the homeowners. Often meeting their mortgage payments can be very difficult and once behind catching up becomes impossible. The banks place heavy fines in late payments and other associated charges making the mortgage obligation swell to a degree that would be unbearable. A foreclosure lawyer can be an incredibly important to the person facing the prospect of losing their home and can protect them from scammers. Enough dignity is lost by foreclosure but by hiring a foreclosure attorney the home owner will  have a person fighting to keep their homes and relieve them of their overwhelming debt.
