Barack Obama Urges Congress to “Take Dramatic Action,” and Pass Stimulus Plan

President-elect Barack Obama has urged Congress to pass his $800 billion stimulus plan, warning “if nothing is done, this recession could linger for years.”

 

While Obama forecasted dire consequences for inactivity held to his belief that it wasn’t too late to “change course” and “lift us from a recession this deep and severe.”

 

Obama did say the burden of that lift fell on the government noting “only the government can provide the short-term boost necessary.” That boost is the $800 billion stimulus plan crafted by Obama that would revive the economy.

 

A byproduct of the stimulus package would be the creation of three million new jobs by 2011, something that would be welcomed as the U.S. is entrenched in its worst recession since the 1930s and is facing a staggering unemployment numbers
