German Chancellor Angela Merkel Proposes UN Body to Monitor World Markets

Speaking to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland German Chancellor Angela Merkel proposed the creation of a United Nations body that would monitor world markets in an effort to avoid another global collapse.

Merkel advocated the creation of a UN Economic Council, a body that would be modeled on the UN Security Council. Earlier this month Merkel introduced the idea to French President Nicolas Sarkozy.

The German Chancellor has expressed the need for a charter that would sustain “global economic order.”
