“UAL Corp. (UAUA) shares rose 2.16% to $8.04 Friday morning. UAL offers air transportation services. Through its subsidiary, United Air Lines Inc., the company provides transportation of persons, property and mail in the United States and internationally. … The company recently announced its primary subsidiary, United Airlines, achieved an operating goal for January, triggering a $100 cash payout for all frontline employees in a new incentive plan. United Airlines expects to lead all network carriers in January for on-time performance when the U.S. Department of Transportation reports industry results in early March. Nearly eight out of every 10 flights operated on time in January, pushing United Airlines ahead of all other network carriers. It also exceeded its customer satisfaction goals, completing 98% of all its scheduled flights in January.”
The Trade Alert author also featured Continental Airlines’ commuter plane crashing in Clarence, New York, killing all 49 people on board:
“Continental Airlines Inc. (CAL) shares climbed .15% to $13.19 Friday morning. Continental Airlines, an air carrier, engages in the transportation of passengers, cargo and mail. … About five miles from Buffalo Niagara International Airport, at around 10:20 p.m. EST Thursday witnesses heard a twin turboprop aircraft sputtering before it went down. According to reports, the 50-seat, Continental Airlines commuter plane, flying in light snow, fog and 17 mph winds, crashed in Clarence, New York, a Buffalo suburb. The commuter plane coming in for a landing nose-dived into a house in suburban Buffalo, sparking a fiery explosion and killing all 49 people on board and one person in the home. It was the first fatal crash of a commercial airliner in the United States in two-and-a-half years. … News said the plane was carrying a four-member crew and an off-duty pilot. Among the 44 passengers killed was a woman whose husband died in the World Trade Center attacks of September 11, 2001.”
