House of Representatives Approves Stimulus Plan, Senate to Vote Next

Members of the U.S. House of Representatives have approved President Barack Obama’s economic stimulus plan and now it will only take approval from members of the Senate to put the package, worth $787 billion, into motion.

While the House approved the bill it was by no means a bipartisan effort as all 246 votes for the plan were cast by Democrats while all 176 Republicans and 7 Democrats voted against the stimulus package that promises tax cuts as well as providing and protecting more than 3.5 million jobs.

On Monday the House approved an $825 billion package, again without the support of a single Republican. Tuesday the Senate approved a different version of the bill worth $838 billion and on Thursday a House and Senate committee agreed on a revised version.

That version was what was approved on Friday and the Senate is expected to approve the version when they vote later today. Once that has been done it will go before Obama who will then sign the economic stimulus package into law.
