“Genuine Parts Co. (GPC) shares fell 1.74% to $31.11 Wednesday morning. Genuine Parts engages in the distribution of automotive and industrial replacement parts, office products, and electrical/electronic materials in the United States, Canada and Mexico. … The Atlanta, Georgia-based company recently reported a year-over-year drop in fourth-quarter profits as sales slipped across nearly all of its segments. … Missing Wall Street's view, net income came in at $87.78 million or 55 cents per share for the fourth quarter, down from $126.09 million or 75 cents per share in the prior-year quarter. Net sales for the quarter declined 4% to $2.52 billion from $2.63 billion in the same quarter last year.”

“StemCells Inc. (STEM) shares dropped 7.03% to $2.32 Wednesday morning. StemCells is a biopharmaceutical company. It engages in the discovery and development of cell-based therapeutics to treat damage to, or degeneration of, major organ systems. … StemCells, as well as several other stem-cell developers, gained ground on sentiment for lifting the ban on federal funding for embryonic stem-cell research. … The president's senior adviser, David Axelrod, said on Fox News Sunday he thinks the administration will be issuing an executive order on stem-cell research soon. "The president is considering that right now," Axelrod said.”
