Tropical Storm Juaning Kills 27 in Philippines

Tropical Storm Juaning claimed the lives of at least 27 people this week in the Philippines. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council has dispatched rescue teams to find the injured and missing, with numbered 60 on Thursday.

The storm moved through northern regions of the island nation on Wednesday after making landfall in Aurora province. Juaning caused flooding and landslides in low-lying regions while deadly waves were reported in coastal areas. Hundreds of thousands of people fled their homes.

The provinces of Albay and Camarines Sur were the worst hit, according to Benito Ramos, the head of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council. “Those two provinces are underwater,” Ramos said.
