Tropical Storm Don Expected to Hit Texas Late Friday
Tropical Storm Don is expected to bring some much needed
rain to Texas this weekend with forecasters predicting 3 to 5 inches of rain
for the southern part of the state. Don is expected to make landfall between
Corpus Christi and Brownsville late Friday or early Saturday. A tropical storm
warning has been issued from the Rio Grande northward to Matagorda.
With maximum sustained winds of 50 mph, extensive wind
damage is not anticipated. Authorities in some areas still advised residents to
secure loose objects. The National Hurricane Center said coastal areas can
expect water levels to rise between 1 and 2 feet. The center also warned strong
waves could cause damage.
As of 1 o’clock Friday afternoon, Tropical Storm Don was about
120 miles from Brownsville. Don was moving west in the Gulf of Mexico at 15
mph.
