Tropical Storm Emily Heads Towards Haiti, Dominican Republic
As Tropical Storm Emily continued to move west at 14 mph Wednesday
morning, a tropical storm warning was put in to effect for Haiti, the Dominican
Republic, Puerto Rico, the Bahamas and Turks and Caicos Islands. The National
Hurricane Center expects Emily to strengthen before making landfall in
Hispaniola, the island Haiti and the Dominican Republic share, Wednesday night.
The storm, which currently packs maximum sustained winds of 50 mph, is expected
to bring up to 10 inches of rain to the island.
Although Emily is expected to weaken as it moves over
Hispaniola, forecasters predict the storm will re-strengthen as it moves back
out over the Atlantic Ocean and into the southeastern Bahamas by late Thursday.
Emily will likely near the east coast of Florida early Saturday. Forecasters
say the storm could be a low-level hurricane by the time it reaches the United
States.
