Tropical Storm Emily Downgraded As It Passes Over Hispaniola

Tropical Storm Emily was downgraded to an average storm system Thursday afternoon as is passed over the mountains of Hispaniola, but the National Hurricane Center warned heavy rain could still cause flooding in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. All tropical storm warnings have been canceled.

The storm system continues to moves towards eastern Cuba and the Bahamas and will likely bring high winds and heavy rain.  “This system remains disorganized but upper-level winds are expected to become a little more favorable for development on Saturday,” the National Hurricane Center said in an update Friday morning.

“This system has a high chance... 60 percent ... of regenerating into a tropical cyclone during the next 48 hours as it moves toward the Northwest and Northward at 15 MPH,” the center added.
