“Kroger Co. (KR) shares slipped 2.04% to $21.06 midday today. Kroger, together with its subsidiaries, operates as a food retailer in the United States. The company recently said it is recalling “Private Selection” shelled pistachios sold in its family of retail stores because the product may be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections. Symptoms of salmonella infection include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. However, the company said no illnesses have been reported in connection with the product. … The company requests customers who have recently purchased the pistachios should not consume this product and should return it to a store for a full refund or replacement.”

“Safeway Inc. (SWY) shares slipped 1.50% to $20.42 in today’s midday trading. Safeway, together with its subsidiaries, operates as a food and drug retailer in North America. Developed exclusively for Safeway, the waterfront BISTRO line was created as a convenient, at-home version of a high-quality seafood bistro experience, complete with recipes for creating everything from gourmet dinners to Sunday brunch fare.”
