Maintenance-products distributor W.W. Grainger Inc. said Monday that its daily sales declined 10 percent in May from a year ago due to broad weakness across its customer base.
The lower results included the effect of unfavorable exchange rates, which contributed 2 percentage points of the drop. However, the development of the H1N1 flu-virus outbreak helped raise sales of pandemic-related products by one percentage point. There was also one fewer business day in May 2009 than May 2008.
