Weekend Report: 51.78 Up 0.03 (0.06%) 6:40PM ET

Six months ago it seemed the very foundation of modern financial markets was crumbling. Everything you knew about investing was wrong. Diversification was dead, defensive strategies were decimated and the mattress was looking like the safest place for your money.

Accordingly, the 10 investment ideas for 2009 that MarketWatch highlighted in December were cautious and careful. In hindsight, maybe too cautious. Both U.S. and global markets have rebounded sharply, as economic "green shoots" poked through the frozen economic landscape. Stocks across the board are higher, as are certain parts of the bond market.
