A meritech is kicking up its heels. Its top executives have long complained that its strengths were overlooked by Wall Street. Now the Baby Bell is in the news and its stock is getting a lot of attention --jumping eight points in three recent trading days, for example, before the telecoms, which had been attractive as defensive stocks in the Asian crisis, came under market pressure last week.
