WellCare Health Plans Inc. said Monday that Heath Schiesser, its president and chief executive officer, plans to resign once a successor has been appointed. The Tampa, Fla.-based provider of managed-care services said its board has formed a committee to focus on its leadership transition.

WellCare Health Plans, Inc. provides managed care services for government-sponsored health care programs in the United States. The company offers Medicaid and Medicare plans, including health plans for families, children, aged, blind, and disabled, as well as prescription drug plans. Its Medicaid plans include plans for individuals who are dually eligible for Medicare and Medicaid; and beneficiaries of the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families program (TANF), Supplemental Security Income Program (SSI), State Childrens Health Insurance program (S-CHIP), and the Family Health Plus program (FHP). The TANF program provides assistance to low-income families with children; the SSI program offers assistance to low-income aged, blind, and disabled individuals; and the S-CHIP and FHP programs provides assistance for families not eligible for Medicaid.
